The Parker Street Mural

In 2021, we heard from many city residents that they were intimidated by the dark tunnels in the Rail Trails. Later that year, Manchester Residents Richard and Barbara Maloney made a donation through the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to fund a project to increase the safety and beauty of the Rail Trail Tunnels on the West and East Sides of Manchester.

In 2022, we sought the appropriate approvals from the City of Manchester and the State of New Hampshire to install Solar Lighting and Artwork in the Parker Street Tunnel on the Piscataquog Rail Trail and the I-93 Tunnel on the Rockingham Rail Trail.

In April of 2022, Peter Noonan was commissioned to design a mural that was nature themed and reflective of the diversity of Manchester, New Hampshire. The project was managed by Donald Waldron and executed by local artists Yasmin Safarzadeh, Jozimar Matimano, Amber-Nicole Cannan, and John Funk. The artwork is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2022 with solar lighting to follow.

Parks & Art bring people together.

What happens when a mural is installed by artists that are teachers that love children? Kids come together and they create. This art class was led by Amber Nicole Cannon of Unchartered Tutoring. .
